Raymond Warren Davis

On this day, we celebrate the life of a man who gave of himself to the benefit of those he loved and to those who may never know him. Ray sacrificed much to accomplish the calling God had on his life. That path would lead to a mature evergreen forest that is home to a plethora of wildlife that dwell under its canopy. Current and future generations will breathe cleaner air made possible by this man who planted trees.  “How many?,” you ask. Twenty-seven thousand—by hand—and yes, with the occasional assistance of a friend or relative and an opportunity to hopefully inspire some future horticulturists by teaching a Boy Scout group how to plant. Ray never sought fame, recognition or wealth while dedicating forty years of his life to this mission. Instead, he planned every day forward to ensure God’s will was done. Today, we say, “Well done, good and faithful servant. You will be in our hearts forevermore.”

Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his faithful servants.  Psalm 116:15
