Frequently Asked Questions

Do you perform some kind of ceremony when you scatter the ashes?

We are happy to say a requested prayer or verse, but it is not an actual ceremony. Our ash scattering is meant to take place after the family has held their memorial service. (We do not conduct these services.)

While Rest Ashured usually scatters the ashes of a loved one on their behalf, we do try to accommodate all requests. We are happy to work with the family regarding such requests.

We open the Rest Ashured property once a year for a “Day of Celebration”, usually in the early summer months. On this day, we invite family and friends to remember and celebrate their late loved one.  Because of our commitment to keeping Rest Ashured in its natural state, we are not open to the public regularly.

It is only necessary to send the ashes for us to scatter. We will provide all the packaging material necessary for it to be mailed safely to us.  However, if you prefer to leave the ashes in the urn, you may do so.

Depending on where you live, you may be interested in our Personal Pick-Up Option. (You can also call us to review details.)

Yes, on certain services. On behalf of a grateful family, Rest Ashured is pleased to provide a 50% discount for those whose loved one has served our great country (including prior military and first responders).

In order to receive the Condolence Code necessary for the discount, we request the appropriate documentation verifying the person’s service. This could be a copy of their discharge form, ID card, certificate, etc. If these are not available, please give us a call to discuss other forms of verification.

This discount does not apply to burial at sea.

We try our best to accommodate everyone we work with, to the extent of our ability, and within all legal parameters. Call or email us with your specific needs.

We can sometimes accommodate requests for other mountain-view sites in Virginia and North Carolina. Please contact us to discuss your particular questions.

The short answer is Yes, but the date and time must be scheduled in advance.  Also, the grounds will be in their natural state, which may make accessing the scatter garden and/or trees more difficult.

You may choose whether you would like an evergreen of deciduous tree. Depending on the availability in our area, we may be able to offer more specific kinds of each.

We are usually able to plant the tree within a week of receiving the ashes, but during very hot or cold weather, we may wait for a more favorable climate to ensure the trees’ success.

Burial at Sea

Is burial at sea legal?

Yes, as long as you abide by the EPA guidelines under the MPRSA general permit for burial at sea. Rest Ashured has established our ash scattering at sea with these guidelines in mind and you can feel free to focus on your family.

Please refer to THIS PAGE for current prices.

We provide both witnessed and unwitnessed options in these locations:

  • Clearwater, Florida
  • Daytona, Florida
  • Jacksonville, Florida
  • Jupiter, Florida
  • Ocean City, Maryland
  • Outer Banks, North Carolina
  • Topsail Island, North Carolina
  • Charleston, South Carolina
  • Virginia Beach, Virginia

According to the EPA, cremation ash must be scattered at least three nautical miles offshore. Also, a report must be filed with the EPA stating the GPS, among other information. All of this is provided by Rest Ashured. You can see more information at www.epa.gov/ocean-dumping/burial-sea

No, unfortunately EPA Regulations state that you cannot release pet remains into the ocean.

*Please note that attended Burial at Sea is only available from April through October, due to potentially harsh winter weather conditions.
